Shuswap Association of Writers

Vanishing BC Book Michael Kluckner One of the local events that Shuswap Writers has sponsored was an evening with Michael Kluckner, renowned British Columbia author, artist and heritage proponent. It took place at the Prestige Harbourfront Resort in Salmon arm BC.

Michael Kluckner is an artist and writer whose works include A Sketchbook Tour of Canada, illustrated histories of Canadian cities and their heritage buildings, and two memoirs of life on a small farm.

His most recent book Vanishing British Columbia explores the old buildings and historic places that are the province’s “roadside memory”. It sold out its first printing in four weeks and was on the BC bestseller list for several months. Vancouver Remembered completes a cycle of writing and painting about Vancouver that he begun more than 20 years ago.

Michael gave a brief illustrated presentation entitled “Art, Writing, Books and the Web” followed by a discussion, focusing on the ways he integrates his painting into publishable writing projects, and how he uses the internet both to develop projects and promote his own work.
An accompanying exhibition of his work was also available in the Shuswap Art Gallery.Check for events in 2008.
