The history of the B.C. Interior is rich with tales from the days of the Gold Rush. Many came to this province over the years hoping to strike it rich.

You don’t have to go all the way to the Cariboo to experience the history of the Gold Rush. You can still experience the gold panning history of the B.C. Interior in our local region. The B.C. Open Gold Panning Championships in Cherryville are an annual event on the May Long Weekend. Historic O’Keefe Ranch just 45min south in Vernon offers goldpanning for all ages.

Fancy yourself a bit of a prospector? Looking to ‘Stake your own claim?’ Talk to the folks at Rich River Exploration in Grindrod, BC. They hold many claims in the region and can offer placer claims rentals to interested individuals.

Try your hand at Opal Prospecting at Okanagan Opal Inc. in Vernon. They operate the only opal mine in Canada just 40km east of Vernon. Don’t worry, if you don’t have any luck in the opal fields, their are always plenty of opals in the giftshop!
